Frequently Asked Questions

General

What types of cases does LPJ Legal specialize in?
LPJ Legal specializes in real estate law, business law, construction law, and related disciplines. We also handle a generous amount of litigation cases, or cases involving a judge and courtroom.
How much experience does LPJ Legal have?
The attorneys at LPJ Legal tout over 25 years of combined legal experience, with our managing attorney Lucrecia Johnson becoming licensed in December of 2011.
What information will I be asked to provide to prove my case?

If you are suing someone, please provide:

– Any relevant communication with the other party, including but not limited to emails, text messages, and phone logs.
– Any contracts that have been drawn up between you and the other party.

If you are being sued by someone, please provide:

– The initial summons and complaint paperwork.
– Any contractual agreements relevant to the case.
– Any relevant communication with the other party, including but not limited to  emails, text messages, and phone logs.

What should I do if I’m contacted by the other party, or by their lawyer?
If you’re contacted by the other party or their lawyer, it’s important not to respond without first consulting your attorney at LPJ Legal — Anything you say could potentially be used against you. As your attorney, LPJ Legal will handle communication with the other party on your behalf to protect your interests and ensure your rights are upheld.
What happens if I don’t respond to a summons?

If you receive a summons, it is important to act quickly due to the varying deadlines you may be subjected to. If you do not respond to a summons, the court may issue a default judgment against you, ruling that you lost the case because you were not there to present your side. If you have received a default judgment, contact LPJ Legal immediately so that we may use our legal resources to help you overturn it.

Can one of the lawyers at LPJ Legal just handle a part of my case?
A ‘limited appearance’ is when a lawyer handles only part of a case. LPJ Legal does not offer limited appearances, as they can create confusion and unclear expectations. Our strategies are most effective when we’re involved in the entire case from start to finish.
Can you help me with legal documents or contracts I already have?
Yes, we can provide contract management services, including helping you to review, interpret, or modify any existing legal documents or contracts, ensuring that your interests are protected.
Will there be more than one attorney working on my case?
LPJ Legal values the blended experiences of our team. While one lead attorney will be assigned to your case, each attorney at our firm will contribute to its management.
Will my information be kept confidential?
At LPJ Legal, we take client confidentiality very seriously. We adhere to strict ethical standards and legal obligations to protect all client information. Our team is trained to handle sensitive information with the utmost care, and we use secure systems to store and manage client data. From your first consultation onward, you can trust that every detail of your case will remain confidential, ensuring your privacy and peace of mind throughout our partnership.
How do I pay for legal services?
LPJ Legal accepts all major credit cards. We process payments through secure payment links, making payments simple and easy to navigate. To ensure financial flexibility, we also offer payment options through Affirm.

Real Estate Law

Do I need a lawyer to buy or sell a property?
Why do I need to hire LPJ Legal as a real estate attorney if I already have a title attorney?

A ‘title attorney’s’ job is to draw up the paperwork necessary to finalize a real estate transaction. However, a title attorney’s job is NOT to make sure that said contracts align with the specific interests of either party. In a real estate transaction, if the only legal representation that you have is a title attorney, then there is no way to ensure that the contracts you’ve been presented with will speak to your unique needs. Hiring LPJ Legal provides you with a crucial layer of legal protection, allowing us to skillfully review, dispute, or modify the contracts that the title attorney has presented you with.

Construction Law

What should you do if a contractor quits in the middle of a job?
If a contractor quits in the middle of a job you need to notify the contractor in writing of the scope of work they failed to finish, ask for a completion date, and give a deadline for the contractor to respond to you. Contact an attorney if the contractor fails to respond to your written communication or still doesn’t complete the work by the new deadline. Learn more HERE.
Do i need a lawyer to handle a mechanics lien on a construction project?

Partnering with an LPJ Legal attorney for your mechanics lien ensures that your lien is properly protected under the law. If you are the property owner facing a lien, our firm can help challenge it and guide you through the necessary steps to resolve your issue.
